Alamo Beer Holds Chilly Groundbreaking
The chilly temperatures weren’t enough to keep beer enthusiasts away from Alamo Beer’s faux groundbreaking on Friday, December 6 (a group made up of founders, investors and elected officials pulled an empty keg from a mound of mulch).
Founder Eugene Simor’s vision of opening his own brewery is getting that much closer to reality. Simor, along with guests District 2 Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor, State Rep Mike Villarreal and South Texas Regional President for Southwest Securities, speechified on how the brewery has been a long time coming.
The completion of the brewery sometime in the fall of 2014 means production (overseen by head brew master James Hudec) will increase from around 40,ooo cases to a more robust half million. Currently, Alamo’s Golden Ale is brewed out of Real Ale Brewery in Blanco, Texas. The completion of the brewery will also mean the expansion of the brand into lagers and seasonal brews.
The groundbreaking was touted as a historic day, as the brewery hopes to help edge economic development toward the Eastside. Simor hopes the brewery will create 30-40 jobs within the next five years not including jobs created via the upcoming restaurant and biergarten.
Although Simor wouldn’t say much about who will helm the kitchen inside the restaurant component, he did hint at a “local, local, local” male presence. He expects to release more information about the restaurant in spring of 2014.
