Celebrate National Fried Chicken Day the SA Way

July 3, 2014

Sunday, July 6 is National Fried Chicken Day and what better way to honor this great Sunday than to eat the best fried chicken San Antonio has to offer. From the famous Church’s that started in downtown San Antonio in the 1950s to the newest eateries in town serving up chicken on the fried side.

1. Church’s Chicken (multiple locations)

2. Max’s Wine Dive (340 E Basse)

3. Chatman’s Chicken (1747 S WW White)

4. Hot Joy (1014 S Alamo)

OK, we know these are the wings, but they’re TWICE fried so that counts, right? If not, try the hot fried chicken (not pictured).

5. Earl Abel’s (1201 Austin Hwy)

Sad. You left off the best fried chicken in SA. Jalapeno buttermilk soaked, crispy, juicy…Winner Winner Chicken Dinner food truck!

Where is the Winner-Winner chicken dinner truck today?

The chicken at Max’s IS damn good. But for $15/2.5 pieces, I can get a whole box full and then some at Church’s AND Chatman’s.

As far as fast food chicken, Church’s can’t hold a candle to Popeye’s spicy. Fact.
