Click here to catch up on Part 1. The back of the store was a goldmine of small nooks of space with signs that said “Do Not Enter.” With only one employee dedicated to this entire area, Isa and Hime knew they would find a little privacy but not a lot of time. The dressing rooms were too busy and active, so another part of the store would have to do. Luckily, medieval peasant costumes were not very popular these days. Hime lifted the rope blocking off the section, and the pair quietly tiptoed into the musty corner. Being quiet was going to be a challenge for Isa. She wanted to ask questions. She was used to being loud and knew discretion was the most important factor in this experience. The need for silence only aroused and excited Hime more. He had been planning on this for a while so he was fully prepared to take on his role as hushed exhibitionist. Their kisses were intense and hard but quiet. Isa was a loud lover, finding it very frustrating to not be expressive. Hime was about to add fuel to that fire as he reached under her skirt. He used [...]

It’s always nice when San Antonio gets a little bit of big city action to break up the monotony of our small town feel. It’s rare, but sometimes it feels like magic. I was recently invited to go to “The Queer Invasion,” and even though I had no idea what I was in for, I loved the sound of it. I imagined a militia of men and women flashing their pride in a local bar, hanging with good friends and meeting some new booty calls. And it was all that, except for the women part… The Guerrilla Queer Invasion started in the more urban queer hubs of San Francisco, New York, Boston and Chicago. The concept is simple: Every month, a local bar is selected to be invaded by the gay army, wearing pre-selected colors or accessories to show who was part of the not-so-secret club. Joe Wise decided to start the trend here in SA about three years ago. He runs the website invadeSA.com, where you can look at past invasions with nice photos and thumping club music. I asked Joe point blank why the queer ladies were missing from the scene. Seriously, the gay woman to gay man [...]

I’ve been telling my friends for days that on Feb. 18th, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to bar Planned Parenthood from all federal funding for any purpose whatsoever, including exams and birth control. How is this possible? Planned Parenthood provides life-saving medical services to millions, including HIV testing and breast and cervical cancer screenings. They state on their website that they have never faced this kind of attack in their 95-year history. Many years ago, I had my annual exams performed at Planned Parenthood at a very low cost, and at the time I was extremely grateful for the accessibility of their services. This act of taking away federal funding from them is just insane! There is an online petition that only takes seconds to sign. If you prefer a locally homegrown, guerilla approach, luckily a few smart people in San Antonio are going to do something about it. On Tuesday, March 8th at 6:00pm, you can stand in solidarity for Planned Parenthood by attending an emergency action rally in front of their location at 104 Babcock Rd. Bring signs. Bring instruments and water. But especially, bring patience and confidence, because pro-lifers will be there too. Tuesday marks the [...]

The day was finally here. We (my best friend and I) have been waiting for this since May. The anticipation was high, and our footsteps were graced with … rose petals and heart-shaped confetti. In hindsight, making citizens get divorced on Valentine’s Day is Bexar County’s way of making sure it’s a done deal. It’s one of the most unromantic things a person can do. The major factor we didn’t take into account was the throngs wearing red and white thongs waiting to get married in a group ceremony on the front steps of the courthouse. We were so wrapped up in the finality of her divorce, we forgot about all the people in love, ready to take the plunge. We just felt sorry for the poor bastards and wanted to scream, “RUN! Don’t do it. Save yourself!” Once we found the courtroom, there was a very serious vibe in there. That was no surprise for me. My friend was mystified however, asking me why she’s the only one who is happy to be getting a divorce. I tell her every one there has their own situation we are (thankfully) unaware of — plus the three Mai Tais she had [...]

When this letter arrived at my friend’s house (click image for an expanded view), there were a lot of high fives between roommates and a sincere joy at the irony of it’s timing. Yes, her divorce was set for it’s final draft on Valentine’s Day. How perfect? How positively charming! I believe everyone should get divorced on Valentine’s Day, at least once in their life. Does Hallmark make a special card just for this occasion? If not, they really should look into it for next year. Since I’m happily supporting a lifetime boycott of all things V-Day, I am REALLY looking forward to our visit to divorce court. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate love lost and moving on with your life. I’m fascinated by the strict dress code. If you wear “tank tops, spaghetti straps or flip flops” etc., you won’t be seen by the judge! You better not look busted when you go to divorce court, although it’s probably one of the many reasons you’re getting divorced in the first place. You should dress up like you’re going on a date. Maybe we’ll find some suitors to go have drinks with after the whole thing [...]

A few weeks ago, I forced myself to watch one episode of Teen Mom 2, and I hated it! The one story I did find compelling was that of Leah and Corey, two dim kids sacked with twins at the tender ages of 16 and 17, respectively. I was happy to see in the tabloids that they are back together talking about their painful split and how the babies brought them closer. They belong together. If being a single teenager with twins isn’t a turn on, I don’t know what is! I just have more questions now that will probably go unanswered forever … Why is this the cover story for Us Weekly? Why does this 18-year-old girl look like a two time divorcee / cougar from Dallas? What is with the epic make-up of Tammy Faye Bakker proportions?

As a victim of date rape, I am FURIOUS over the GOP bill attempting to redefine rape and limit access to federal aid for abortions in certain cases. This is a moment when you can hear the collective outrage and questions of “What were they thinking?” Do the lawmakers behind this kind of absurdity think their wives, daughters, mothers, etc., are safe and immune from this kind of trauma? The Huffington Post, along with many other media outlets, breaks it down. A blog on our site by agitation also breaks it down thoroughly, with good feedback. The focus of the proposed bill is completely misguided. Protecting women and girls from unwanted pregnancies as a result of rape or coercion should be an undiluted national goal. However, it is not. This issue comes down to one basic thing: money. If federal dollars are of such concern, then they should stop throwing billions of it at the war machine in Afghanistan and Iraq. But they won’t. So they’re trying to take a piece from Medicaid, affecting women and girls who should rightfully have access to those funds? Unbelievable! The discourse about not being able to define “forcible rape” is equally frustrating. Any [...]

I was inspired by the Open Letters on page 47 of this week’s SA Current, which tells a slew of media players to “go away. Forever.” The MTV show Teen Mom was on the list, so I knew I had to finally break down and do the unbearable by watching it. Nielsen ratings show that the Teen Mom 2 season premiere averaged 3.6 million viewers, with 3.4 million viewers in the 12-34 age bracket, breaking MTV network records. Young people are watching it, and this scares me. Enter my 41-minute dose of reality hell that I will call “Teen Mom 2: A Non-Breeder’s Nightmare.” Watching this program made me an informed media consumer who could adequately bitch about it. Here’s the breakdown, so you don’t have to watch it yourself: Kailyn — living in the basement of her boyfriend Jo’s parent’s house. They fight a lot, in part because Jo is quite the young jerk, so they break up. She tells her friend she “feels awkward being there.” Gee, you think so? Jenelle — her mom is staking claim to her grandson, in part because Jenelle is a disrespectful brat who wants to go out all the time. Mom says, [...]

In my expert opinion, 2010 was a great year for sex. More people were talking about it, singing about it, and just plain DOING IT! Unfortunately, there was way too much media attention on the break-ups of celebrity marriages. Lesson learned folks: If you’ve never been married, keep it that way! You’ll be much happier and have a lot more sex. Here are my Top 5 Femmes of the Year, the ladies who seemed to move mountains (of cash and tabloid TV time) with their ultra femme powers. 5) Elin Nordegren – I would like to publicly declare my love for Swedes right here. Let’s just get it all out in the open. Swedes are HOT in an icy, cold kind of way. I’ve dated some, so I know. Tiger’s ex reportedly received a $110 million settlement in her August divorce, but all that cold hard cash hasn’t gone to her head. She’s studying psychology part-time at Rollins College in Florida and allegedly dating a fellow student. You go girl! Psychology is a great subject for you. 4) Sandra Bullock – I think it’s all gone downhill for SB after Speed and Speed 2: Cruise Control but she still won [...]

Some people love to talk the night away about their sexual exploits while still cleaving safely to the shadows of vagary. “You’re not going to use my real name, are you?” “No, your secrets are safe with me. Tell me more about how you got involved in the lifestyle.” For those in the dark, people who refer to “the lifestyle” are the ultra-special sexy people who are usually called the same name as a playground staple. While “swinging” often invokes negative, wide-collar stereotypes in people looking in from the outside, “lifestyle” works like a corporate re-branding effort: it’s so much safer, more modern, younger, less hairy, and a little less creepy. Walking into a newly opened swinger/lifestyle club two weeks ago was a lot like entering the set of Real Sex bounded by very dark walls. All in all, the club (no, they would not agree to be outed by name here) was clean and classy. Surprisingly, it did not smell like lube or sex. There were lots of candles, mirrors, and flashing club lights. So it’s just like a club on the River Walk, but with beds? Neat. Everyone in the lifestyle has their own forte, and there are [...]

Ah the Europeans. Our kinder, more liberal neighbors across the pond. When this article hit my inbox a few days ago, I began prowling for a safety vest to complete the ultimate Halloween costume: Spanish prostitute. It’s important to note that the pros are not being targeted because of the work they do, but because the pose a dangerous threat to motorists AND themselves. Have you ever had to wipe dead hooker parts from your car? I can only guess it’s no fun at all! As a fashion trend for ordinary folk, I see this as the beginning of a futuristic, modern look. In many sci fi movies, everyone wears shiny, metallic clothing. Could Spain be on the verge of a brave new world, set in lovely Catalonia?

I have been getting a lot of invitations to an event called “October 20th – Spirit Day.” I wanted to put my finger on it. Apparently, “It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the six (now seven?) gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBT flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit.” You may know my feelings on the LGBT flag. If not, I’m not a fan. I’m a much bigger fan of this guy. I love the idea of thousands of people wearing purple to show solidarity with those who are/were abused because of their sexual orientation. Bringing awareness to these issues makes us stronger. Talking about it and sharing our experiences makes the pain heal over time. Personally, I’m still having the coming out discussion with my mother … years later. Let’s make Spirit Day a reality. There’s even a very catchy, uplifting song about wearing purple. Let purple be your power color. It works for these fine folks: And let’s not forget the most uplifting [...]

In October, part of the on-going effort to protect our brothers and sisters is to bring awareness of all types of gay issues. One of the most crucial problems facing gay communities of color is a commitment to safe sex practices. The National Latino AIDS Awareness Day was created in 2003, as a mobilizing vehicle to bring awareness, education and to help stem the tide of HIV/AIDS in Latino communities. The San Antonio National Latino AIDS Awareness Day Committee* have pledged to do some of the work required to educate our community on the importance of bringing awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its prevention. By getting tested and knowing your status, you can teach others to continue practicing the safest sex possible: the kind with a condom! There will be a Health Fair at San Pedro Park (in front of pool house) on Saturday, October 16 from 10am – 2pm. There will be appearances by local public officials and other guest speakers, informational booths, door prizes, free refreshments, music, health screenings and free HIV rapid antibody testing. *The San Antonio National Latino AIDS Awareness Day Committee includes participants from the B.E.A.T. AIDS, Bexar County Ryan White Program, Centro Med [...]

There are some things in life you just can’t change. I have never been a fan of the rainbow as a gay symbol, but it’s a cultural institution. My dislike of rainbow flags will not make them go away. Rainbows are for kids, unicorn art and a freakishly happy dude named Paul “Hungry Bear” Vasquez. With that kind of joy, he can have all the rainbows in the world. Another thing you can’t change is being gay. Your dislike for us will not make us go away. I don’t want to tell every gay youth who is being bullied that it will get better, because I’d be lying. I’m going to tell them the truth instead: You just have to be who you are and surround yourself with people who love you and make you happy. When I came out to my mother in high school, she said it was “just a phase.” I would “grow out of it.” Well sorry mom, but I didn’t grow out of it like I did from your beautiful womb. I am still the same person, but whom I choose to love is not up for debate. Her refusal to accept that part of [...]

This Sunday marks the 15th Annual Solidarity Sunday, and it’s timing could not be more timely. Solidarity Sunday is a faith-based anti-violence initiative aimed at ending violence toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans-gendered people of our planet. Every year, people across the United States gather to remember those who have been abused, mistreated and killed because of their sexual orientation. It has expanded each year to include many faiths: Catholic, Methodist, Jewish, Episcopalian, Buddhist… the list goes on and on. Solidarity Sunday is a national event that started here in San Antonio in 1995. This Sunday, October 10th at 2:30 pm, there will be a panel discussion hosted by PRO San Antonio and moderated by Cary Clack of the Express News. The topic of the panel discussion is “Invisible Violence = Invisible Scars. How do you know you are not violent?” One panelist is local artist Anel Flores, who is a representative for the current Latina Lesbiana experience in San Antonio. Clack will also be a guest speaker for an Interfaith Solidarity Service at 5:00. Nothing rounds out the healing process like sharing food, and that’s just what they’ll do after the service. The Solidarity Interfaith Service, Panel discussion, [...]

There are plenty of sex columns out there. They’re boring. We like to have fun over here. Sex can get very dull very fast, so I like to encourage experimentation. Ask away. But please, let’s have a few ground rules: - You can’t change a person into someone you find more appealing. Stop trying. Stop lying. You and your relationship will fail. Try being with someone you genuinely like as a friend before you become lovers. - Please be specific. I can think of five different ways to answer “My boyfriend won’t stop pestering me for anal sex. What do I do?” Do you want tips on making it happen or do you want him off your backside? It’s all in the details people. - This blog is a free-for-all. Gay, hetero, bi, trans, fetish, curious? As long as it involves sex between consenting adults, it’s more than ok. It’s fantastic. Is it ok to be a 25-year old man that has only had sex with one woman his whole life? – LPL Dear Onesie, Yes, it is perfectly fine to be 25 and only have one sexual partner. I can understand if the sex-crazed media might create some pressure [...]

Several years ago, my best friend met a man in an online chat room. She approached him because he used his real name as his user name, not some jumble of random words and numbers. They met, got along really well and decided to go on a trip together. Her family and I were shocked and we demanded to meet him. I wanted to be able to identify him to the authorities because I was convinced that he would kill and bury her in some sadistic love ritual. In hindsight, I feel very foolish for my overreaction. But this was in the earliest days of online dating, before the pay sites existed, when there was still a lot of mystery about the whole operation. These days online dating is so common, the only person who hasn’t met someone on the internet is someone who doesn’t use a computer. Yes there are the popular websites where you answer a hundred questions about yourself and get paired up with people who share similar interests. Many of these sites have a fee, which is good because it shows you are committed. You know exactly what you’re getting into. However, Facebook is giving these [...]
