Eleven $5,000 Grants will be awarded to local artists
The Artist Foundation of San Antonio (AF) has issued its open call for 2012 award applications. The deadline to apply is Monday, November 19. Up to 11 $5,000 awards will be made in the categories of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Classical Singing, Set Design and Costume Design. Interested artists can find additional details and apply online at artistfound.org or write to email@example.com for more information. Awards will be announced in January, 2013. There will be an artist application workshop at Trinity University Digital Lab on Saturday, November 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Including these 2012 awards, the AF will have granted more than $465,000 to 86 San Antonio artists. The awards are evident in new creative work shown at exhibitions and productions locally and beyond.
Recently, Lisa Perello, winner of the 2011 Tobin Award for Costume Design, staged her innovative flamenco costume and dance performance at Say Si’s Black Box Theatre, a production made possible with her award.
“The key to the Artist Foundation’s success has been to keep their operation lean and laser-focused on their mission,” says Bruce Bugg, Tobin Endowment Chairman and funder of the Tobin Grand Prize for Artistic Excellence, a $7500 grant which is awarded to one of the selected artists.
The goals of the Artist Foundation include not only identifying outstanding area artists through a juried process and granting them monetary awards, but also raising awareness about the vast artistic talent in our community. The Artist Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is supported in part by The Cultural Collaborative of the City of San Antonio, The Tobin Endowment, The Tobin Theatre Arts Fund, the estate of George Cortes, Lifshutz Foundation, The Liberto Family, and Graham Weston.
