Perry’s Texas approval drops after presidential run

January 26, 2012

Texas seems to agree: Gov. Rick Perry’s time in the national spotlight was both cringe-worthy and embarrassing.

A new poll commissioned by the major Texas dailies, including the San Antonio Express-News, puts Perry’s Texas approval rating at an all-time low of 40 percent following his bumbling presidential bid – even below Obama’s 43 percent approval rating in the Lone Star State. That puts Perry’s approval rating down 10 points from last year.

The new drop appears to be directly tied to Perry’s failed presidential run, with all of its ‘Turkey is run by Islamic terrorists,’ ‘the American Revolution was fought in the 16th century,’ and ‘Oops‘ glory. Among registered voters, 41 percent said Perry’s run had hurt their view of the governor while 48 percent said his presidential bid hurt “America’s image of Texas.”

Micheline Blum, director of the poll, told the E-N, “Rick Perry didn’t just not do well in his presidential campaign, but he didn’t do himself any favors at home.”

Hopefully Texans NOW see why Perry never had the guts to debate Bill White.  Hopefully the veil over Texans’ eyes have been lifted.

Perhaps he would have to deal with a lot ways to make his name more known in a good light so that he would get a good approval rank again.
